The Supreme Court on Monday (October 6, 2025) questioned a man claiming to be the father of two minor Russian children found along with their mother in a cave near Gokarna in Karnataka early this year.

Appearing before a Bench headed by Justice Surya Kant, the petitioner, identified as Dror Shlomo Goldstein, challenged a Karnataka High Court decision allowing the Centre to grant travel documents to the mother and children for their repatriation to Russia.

“Show us any official document to prove he is the father of these children… Why should we not direct your deportation?” Justice Kant asked the man’s counsel.

A 40-year-old Russian woman, staying in an isolated cave along with her two children in the forests of Gokarna in Uttara Kannada district, has been rescued by the Gokarna police. Her visa expired in 2017, said the police.
The police sent the trio to the Foreigners Restriction Centre for Women in Tumakuru until repatriation.

Justice Joymalya Bagchi, who accompanied Justice Kant on the Bench, termed the petition as a “publicity litigation”.

“What were you doing when your children were living in a cave?” Justice Bagchi asked. The court finally allowed the petitioner’s counsel to withdraw the plea.
