The inauguration of the construction of the Vaduthala railway overbridge and the Perandoor-Vaduthala bridge will be held on October 7. Public Works Minister P.K. Basheer will inaugurate the construction. The projects are expected to alleviate traffic congestion in Ernakulam city, according to a statement.

The new bridge, which is being constructed across the Perandoor Canal and will connect Vaduthala and Perandoor, will serve as a key transport link and enable people to travel quickly from Container Road via Vaduthala to Kaloor, thereby bypassing the congested National Highway.

An administrative sanction of ₹34.24 crore has been granted for the project. As per the revised alignment, around 34 cents of land in the Perandoor area and 55 cents in the Vaduthala area have been acquired. The proposed bridge will have a total length of 153.6 metres and an overall width of 11 metres.

It will feature a 7.5-metre-wide carriageway flanked by 1.5-metre-wide footpaths on both sides. The project completion period is two years.

In the case of the Vaduthala railway overbridge, which is being constructed at railway level crossing number 69 in the Ernakulam constituency, a financial sanction of ₹91.89 crore has been obtained. The total length of the flyover is 372.78 metres. The bridge will have a total width of 10.15 metres and comprise a 7.5-metre-wide carriageway and a 1.50-metre-wide footpath on one side.

The project is also expected to help reduce the risk of accidents. Once the Vaduthala railway overbridge and the Perandoor-Vaduthala bridge become a reality, connectivity between Vaduthala, Perandoor, Pachalam, Chittoor and surrounding areas will be strengthened, according to the communication.
