CPI(M) district committee meeting begins at Ponnani

The CPI(M)’s expanded district committee meeting began at Ponnani on Saturday (October 3), with the Leader of Opposition and party Politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurating the two-day session.

The meeting is focused on strengthening the party’s work among the people and planning organisational activities in response to current political conditions.

Senior leader Paloli Mohammedkutty hoisted the party flag at the RV Palace auditorium, Chamravattom. District secretary V.P. Anil presented the organisational report after the opening session.

A general discussion of the report began after group discussions and will continue on Sunday (October 4). The meeting will conclude after the leadership responds to the issues raised.

CPI(M) Central committee members P.K. Sreemathy, E.P. Jayarajan, K.K. Shailaja and C.S. Sujatha, and State secretariat members M. Swaraj and V. Sivankutty are attending.

The meeting has 135 participants, including 42 district committee members, 54 representatives from 18 area committees and 29 representatives of mass organisations.

A procession and public meeting will mark the conclusion of the programme on Sunday. The procession will begin at 4.30 p.m. from C.V. Junction near Ponnani Harbour and end at Nilayorapatha.

About 50,000 people from seven coastal area committees are expected to take part. Mr. Vijayan will inaugurate the public meeting.
