Red Run Marathon, a five km run, was held in Bagalkot on Wednesday to create awareness about HIV/AIDs.

S.C. Patil, District Leprosy Control Officer, flagged off the district-level run for college students, in front of the District Administration Complex.

A total of 98 students, aged between 17 and 25, from various degree and professional colleges across the district participated in the marathon.

Prateek Deganvi, Abubakar Kadabi and Ajit Damadi secured the top positions among men, and Meenakshi Chalavannavar, Sushmita Sulikeri and Sunita Prakash Gundali won prizes among women.

The students who secured the first place at the district level qualified for the State-level marathon competition. The winners at the district level were awarded cash prizes – ₹5,000 for first place, ₹3,500 for second place, and ₹2,500 for third place – along with certificates of merit.

Karnataka State AIDS Prevention Society, District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, District Health and Family Welfare Department, District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit, District Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, and BVVS Basaveshwara College of Physical Education jointly organised it.

The Health Department staff, including M.B. Ballari, M.R. Kamble, B.L. Hosalli, Srikanth Hadalageri, Geetha Kamble, M.H. Subedar, Neelakantha Neelanayaka, and Siddanagouda Goudar and others were present.
