Former J&K Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday (October 4, 2025) expressed her lament over the demolition of the house of Padma Shri awardee and Olympian Mohammed Shahid in Uttar Pradesh during a road project.
“While Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice B.R. Gavai speaks of India being governed by the rule of law not the rule of the bulldozer, a heartbreaking video surfaced from Varanasi. The elderly father of Padma Shri awardee and Olympian Mohammed Shahid stands before a demolition squad, hands folded, voice trembling, begging for just a single day’s time to save his home. But no one is listening. If this isn’t bulldozer justice, then what is?” Ms. Mufti said.
Mr. Shahid’s ancestral home was partially demolished during a road development project and the video, where the father was pleading before officials for more time, went viral online and evoked sharp reactions.
