Jagan demands withdrawal of cases against youth seeking Mega Police recruitment

YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday demanded the withdrawal of police cases allegedly filed against unemployed youth who protested in Kakinada seeking notification for Mega Police recruitment.

In a post on X, Mr. Jagan said cases had been registered against Shyam, T. Raja, M. Ganga Suribabu, Rajesh and 20 other police-job aspirants who, he claimed, had peacefully raised their demand for recruitment. He questioned whether seeking jobs and questioning the government could be treated as a criminal offence.

Mr. Jagan accused the TDP-led coalition government headed by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of failing to fulfil its promises to unemployed youth. He said Mr. Naidu had promised an annual job calendar and a monthly unemployment allowance of ₹3,000. He claimed that the non-payment of the allowance to 20 lakh unemployed youth amounted to ₹7,200 crore a year and ₹21,600 crore over three years.

Referring to the controversy over Mega DSC recruitment, Mr. Jagan alleged that the government was unable to answer questions being raised over the recruitment process and was instead resorting to “repression, censorship and intimidation”.

He alleged that candidates accused of securing jobs through irregular means were being protected while unemployed youth demanding recruitment notifications were facing police cases. He said this reflected the “anti-youth” and “undemocratic” character of the coalition government.

Mr. Jagan also alleged that recruitment scams, question-paper leaks and irregular appointments had become common whenever the TDP was in power. He accused the government of failing to provide fair and transparent employment opportunities to the State’s youth.

The former Chief Minister demanded the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of the cases against the protesters and the release of the Mega Police Recruitment notification without further delay. He said the YSRCP would stand with unemployed youth and intensify its agitation until their demands were addressed.
