Senior IPS officer B. Dayananda (1994 batch) has been promoted to Director-General of Police (DGP) rank, with retrospective effect from September 12, 2025, and posted as the Chief of the Internal Security Division (ISD).

Mr. Dayananda, who was Bengaluru City Police Commissioner when the stampede happened at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s victory celebrations on June 4, 2025, was suspended and a departmental inquiry was initiated against him. He was recently exonerated, along with other officers. Following this, he has been promoted to the DGP rank and posted as the ISD Chief.

Meanwhile, a few other IPS officers have also been transferred. Anita Bhimappa Haddannavar, who was serving as Deputy Commissioner of Police, South West, Bengaluru, has been transferred with immediate effect and posted as Superintendent of Police, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), replacing Sam Varghese, IPS, who has been posted as DCP, Law & Order, Mangaluru City. Ram L. Arasiddi, who was awaiting posting, has been appointed DCP, Intelligence, Bengaluru City, against a vacant post. Lakshmi Ganesh K., also awaiting posting, has been appointed DCP, South West, Bengaluru, succeeding Anita Haddannavar.
