Uttar Pradesh government on Friday said Dairy conclave of three divisions Jhansi, Chitrakoot and Kanpur will be held at Jhansi on 11th September, 2026, the theme of the conclave will be women participation & entrepreneurship in dairy development and contribution in dairy economy.
The Dairy Department said the objective of the conclave is to disseminate the advantages of various public welfare initiatives to eligible beneficiaries and promote rural economy.
“Dairy Development Department completed its 50 years on 17th April 2026. To commemorate this, under the blessings & guidance of Hon’ble CM Adityanath Yogi ji, a two-day Dugdamrit Swarn Mahotsav was organised in Lucknow, where thousands of milk farmers, investors, experts, technicians, academicians, milk-producing companies, SHGs, and co-operatives assembled. Shared their experiences on a single platform. Backwards and forward linkages were connected. Mahotsav also witnessed a dairy expo which showcased the strength of the dairy sector in Uttar Pradesh. Several government, non-government, and private stakeholders participated in the expo. The next dairy conclave is regionalised & focused for Bundelkhand & will be organised at Jhansi,” said Dhanalakshmi K., Dairy Commissioner, Uttar Pradesh, to The Hindu, in Lucknow.
“In the dairy sector, Bundelkhand is categorically known for its major women’s involvement & participation in cooperatives & milk producing companies. The upcoming Dairy conclave in Jhansi aims to encourage & disseminate the advantages of various public welfare initiatives being executed by the Dairy Development Department to eligible beneficiaries. We aim to enhance awareness regarding modern technologies and scientific livestock management, quality control, and enhancement of value addition of the dairy products, while ensuring the effective execution of departmental schemes,” she added.
Speaking about the theme of the conclave, which will be women’s empowerment and involvement of women in Dairy Development, Ms. Dhanalakshmi, the 2000-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, added, “women by birth are better managers in the household. Dairy was not separate from domestic functions. It was part and parcel of domestic functions, which were run and managed by women. They were not only the caretakers of the family members but also of the domestic livestock which were integral part of the family.”
“The rearing and nurturing of the cows and other livestock was part of their life. They ran daily dairy farming activities like cleaning, fodder management, health care etc. They became contributors to family income, which became the force driving rural livelihood. They also ensured family nutrition as well as food security. Women as a whole emerged as major contributors in the dairy sector in India especially in Uttar Pradesh,” she added.
“Thus, women became a major part of our dairy cooperative sector more than 70%. Bundelkhand region, once was the drought prone dry region, has emerged as a dairy hub. In this region, women have taken active participation & 100% women owned & run co-operatives & milk producing companies have been formed. In Uttar Pradesh, 9 MPCs as of date are run & owned by women, which led to white revolution & complete change in the rural economy, nutrition & food security. Women who once were participants in dairy farming have become women entrepreneurs in the dairy sector. A large number of women are becoming Lakhpati Didis, who are the motivation for other women. They have not only strengthened their livelihood but also enhanced the GDP by contributing to the nation’s economy. Not far are the days when these women will become Crorepati Didis. Last but not least, these women’s groups are entering into the dairy processing industry & eying on the domestic & international markets to provide quality nutritious milk & milk products,” she said.
“Hon’ble CM Sri Yogi Adityanath has encouraged & supported women dairy farmers & entrepreneurs. Nand Baba Dugd Mission has earmarked a minimum of 50% of the beneficiaries to be women in their schemes of Mukhyamantri Gosamvardhan Yojana, Mini Nandini, Nandini Krishi Samriddhi Yojana, as well as Pragatisheel Kisan Yojana. Uttar Pradesh Dairy Development & Milk Products Promotion Policy 2022 is also prioritising women entrepreneurs for subsidies of establishing dairy processing units,” she added.
