Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) north secretary Arjun Mavilankandy on Thursday threatened retaliation and issued a public threat saying the party would not hesitate to enter the house of Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] leaders and “throw bombs” if those responsible for an earlier attack on a BJP leader were not arrested.

Speaking at the march in Cherukkunnu called for protest against the pre-dawn bomb attack on BJP Kalliasseri constituency committee general secretary K. Biju Narayanan’s house, Mr. Arjun said police must act or the party would take matters into its own hands.

“If the police failed to do their duty and arrest those behind it, there will be retaliation,” he warned.

“We know the local secretary, branch, secretary and area secretary. We know their houses. We are capable of throwing bombs at their houses. We are capable of throwing bomb at their houses. We know where their children are studying,” he threatened.

Mr. Arjun also warned the police directly, saying that those expecting peace in the region must ensure arrests are made.

“If a situation arise where we cannot protect our cadres, we will take the law in our hands and the judgement will be made in our court of law,” he threatened.

Mr. Arjun’s remarks came hours after three bombs were hurled at the residence of BJP leader Mr. Biju in the wee hours. The explosion damaged window panes, furniture and parts of the house. Kannapuram police reached the scene, recovered explosive remnants from the veranda, and deployed a bomb squad. Forensic teams were reported to be involved and CCTV footage in the area is being examined.
