MP inspects Bharatmala highway works in Yadgir

G. Kumar Naik, Raichur-Yadgir MP, on Wednesday (September 2) inspected the ongoing Package-3 works of the Chennai–Surat National Highway being executed under the National Highways Authority of India’s (NHAI) Bharatmala Pariyojana.

Mr. Naik reviewed the progress of the highway being constructed from Basantapur to Sirwal village in Shahapur taluk of Yadgir district and sought details from NHAI officials about the progress and quality of the works.

He directed the officials to ensure that the highway construction did not cause inconvenience to farmers and villagers. Underpasses should be provided wherever necessary, while service roads should be developed to enable farmers to reach their agricultural land conveniently, he said.

He also directed the authorities to install clear signboards and adequate safety measures at village entry and exit points, underpasses, service roads and curves to alert motorists and ensure safe movement.

The MP asked the officials to provide alternative access wherever existing roads leading to agricultural fields were closed during construction. Proper drainage and water-flow arrangements should also be made to prevent waterlogging during the monsoon, he said.

Mr. Naik stressed that there should be no compromise on the quality of materials used in the project. The work should be executed according to the prescribed standards, maintaining quality and pace, and completed at the earliest, he told the officials.

He also directed the authorities to inspect on the spot any problems faced by local residents and farmers due to the highway project and provide permanent solutions. The progress of the works should be reviewed regularly and there should be no scope for delay in completing the project within the stipulated period, he said.

NHAI project director and planning manager, officials concerned, representatives of the contractor, local leaders, farmers and villagers were present.
