Visakha Valley School in Visakhapatnam organised a World Elephant Day programme on Thursday (August 13, 2026) under the theme ‘Elephants and Traditional Knowledge: Celebrating Cultural Heritage’. Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change and External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh was the chief guest.

Naaz Rizvi, Director, National Museum of Natural History, and D.S. Varma, Head of AM/NS India Vizag and a governing body member of Visakha Valley School, were among those present.

The speakers said elephants and wildlife needed to be protected, and asked students to develop greater sensitivity towards nature and biodiversity.

Principal Eshwari Prabhakar said the school sought to promote awareness of environmental and wildlife conservation beyond academics. An inter-school drawing competition was also held as part of the programme, and the winners were presented with mementoes and certificates.
