Leaders of the Puducherry- based All India N.R. Congress (AINRC) on Sunday announced the party has plans to expand its footprint in Tamil Nadu.

The party celebrated birthday (August 4) of the AINRC founder and Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy, in Chennai on Sunday. 

Former Minister and senior party leader K. Lakshminarayanan said many people from Tamil Nadu especially youngsters “who were impressed by Mr. Rangasamy’s leadership”, had expressed their desire to contest in Tamil Nadu on behalf of the party. “We have plans to contest in the next elections,” he said. 

Puducherry Minister P. Rajavelu, said he was “amazed to see the kind of support that Mr. Rangasamy had in Tamil Nadu”.

The party also celebrated the birth anniversary of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Kamaraj in advance. Former MLA and Member, Pondy Backward Classes Commission, M. Ilango recalled he and Mr. Rangasamy had met Kamaraj at the same time in 1974 during the elections. “We went as a group. We both became first time MLAs at the same time.”

Leaders including V. P. Sivakolundhu, N. S. Jayapal and Khaliyan Kandaswamy participated in the celebrations.
