The Department of Forests, Government of Karnataka, will celebrate the 71st Wildlife Week from October 2 to 8, with a series of awareness and outreach programmes.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the week-long celebrations on October 2 by flagging off a walkathon from Vidhana Soudha to Lalbagh in Bengaluru. The following days will feature tableaux and street plays in fringe villages of Bannerghatta, Alekal, Harohalli, and Kodihalli wildlife ranges, along with a painting competition for specially-abled children at Bannerghatta Biological Park.

Other highlights include a cycle rally from Aranya Bhavan to Bannerghatta on October 5, bird-watching sessions at Bannerghatta National Park, and a workshop on wildlife laws and human-wildlife conflict management for frontline staff at Environmental Management and Policy Research Institute (EMPRI) on October 6.

The celebrations will conclude with a closing ceremony at the Banquet Hall of Vidhana Soudha on October 8 at 11 a.m.
