Employees of Hindustan Machine Tools (HMT), Kalamassery, on Saturday submitted a memorandum to Rajya Sabha member John Brittas, seeking his intervention to resolve the prolonged financial crisis in the public sector unit.

The HMT Employees Union (CITU), in its memorandum, said salaries had been delayed continuously and urged the Centre to implement the long-pending HMT revival package announced earlier.

The union, in a statement, said Mr. Brittas had assured the employees that he would take up the issue with the Centre. The memorandum noted that despite assurances made during a meeting with Union Heavy Industries Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy in December 2025, the revival package had not been implemented even after seven months.

The union alleged that a shortage of working capital and manpower had hampered production despite the unit having orders worth ₹52 crore. It also said that the suspension of employee bus services from August 1 and delays in retirement benefits for several former employees had worsened the situation.
