Around 39 pilgrims returning from the Amarnath Yatra were injured in a road accident in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Tuesday (July 27, 2026).
The incident took place around 5.30 a.m. The bus, full of pilgrims, skidded off the road and plunged into a low-lying area near the S-Mode area of Ganiwan in Gund area of Ganderbal, locals said. Initial reports suggested that the driver of the bus bearing registration number AR11 D5655 lost control near Ganiwan before rolling down into a ditch.
Locals joined the security forces to rescue the trapped pilgrims, which included women and children. “39 pilgrims returning after Darshan of Baba Barfani sustained injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) [in Srinagar]. I have directed the health officials to ensure all necessary assistance and the best possible medical care,” said J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
Officials said several injured suffered head injuries in the accident. Mr. Sinha also spoke with the Deputy Commissioner, Ganderbal, and health officials. The police will ascertain the cause of the accident, officials added.
