Leaders of Kulavivaksha Vyatireka Porata Sangham (KVPS) on Sunday said the State government insulted Legislative Council Chairman K. Moshenu Raju by not inviting him to the inauguration of the new Assembly building complex because he belonged to the Scheduled Caste community.
In a statement, KVPS State president O. Nallappa and general secretary A. Malyadri said the government offering an apology in the Legislative Council was not enough, and demanded that Mr. Moshenu Raju’s name be included on the inauguration plaque and the complex be re-inaugurated.
The KVPS leaders said this was not the first time Dalit representatives had been humiliated, and pointed out that Mr. Moshen Raju was also excluded from the recent Women’s Parliament held in Tirupati.
Even in 2014, they alleged, Tenali MLA Sravan Kumar was initially denied a place in the Capital Construction Committee because he was a Dalit, but later included after protests by the public.
The KVPS leaders alleged that attacks on Dalits increased in the state and residents in Dalit colonies suffered from fever and mysterious illnesses due to government neglect.
They alleged that instead of protecting Dalit victims, the government and police were filing cases and forcing compromises to shield culprits, and cited examples of incidents at Mallavaram in Pithapuram mandal, Kakinada, Payakaraopeta, Nakkapalli, Kondapi, Mangalagiri and Tenali.
They said it was unfortunate that even after 16 months in power, the coalition government failed to release SC Corporation loans.
