Three teenagers drown in irrigation canal in Konaseema District

Two boys and a girl have allegedly drowned in an irrigation canal near Venkatayapalem village in the Ramachandrapuram Mandal of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema District on Friday (July 24, 2026). The deceased have been identified as Kanikella Ranjit (15) and Bokka Veerendra (19) from Kandiga village, and Vasudha Pavani (14) from Pasalapudi village in Ramachandrapuram Mandal.

The incident occurred when the two boys dived into the canal in an attempt to rescue Pavani after she accidentally slipped and fell.

In an official release, District Collector R. Mahesh Kumar stated that the three bodies have been retrieved and handed over to their family members after post-mortem examinations were performed at the government hospital in Ramachandrapuram. The police have registered a case, and the investigation is ongoing.

Minister of Labour Vasamsetty Subhash and District In-Charge and Agriculture Minister K. Atchnnaidu spoke to the family members of the deceased and consoled them.
