Cement industries would provide cement bags at ₹230 each for construction of State government’s Indiramma Houses. They took the decision responding to a request by Housing and Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy. Each bag is sold for around ₹340 in commercial markets. The price varies depending on number of quantity purchased.

Many beneficiaries of the house scheme incurred expenses over ₹5 lakh subsidy provided by the government, with one of the reasons being escalating costs of construction materials.

Under the first phase of the housing scheme implemented in the State, except Hyderabad, 4.5 lakh houses were sanctioned. Out of them, slabs were laid for 85% of the houses and the remaining 15% are in various stages of construction. As part of the second phase, 2.5 lakh houses were sanctioned with 2,000 in each of the Assembly constituencies, as per a press note issued on Tuesday.
