Tamil Nadu Minister for Food and Civil Supplies P. Venkataramanan on Tuesday met Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Pralhad Joshi at New Delhi and urged him to increase the State’s rice procurement target for the 2025–26 Kharif procurement season from 16 lakh metric tonnes to 29.79 lakh metric tonnes.

He also urged the Union government to immediately release the pending rice subsidy of ₹541.27 crore due to Tamil Nadu under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) and Priority Household (PHH) schemes.

According to an official release, Mr. Venkataramanan submitted a memorandum to the Union Minister highlighting several proposals of the department awaiting the Centre’s approval, measures to further strengthen Tamil Nadu’s Public Distribution System (PDS), improve the procurement, storage and distribution of paddy and other food grains.
