The Greater Chennai Police’s Central Crime Branch (CCB) has arrested a 36-year-old man for allegedly cheating a job seeker of nearly ₹2 lakh by falsely promising him employment at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) and launched a hunt to nab a woman mastermind.
According to the police, the complainant, Saravanan (28) of Anna Nagar West Extension, had completed a BCA degree and was searching for a job. In 2025, he came into contact with a woman who claimed to be a cancer researcher based in Mumbai and also employed at the RGGGH. She allegedly told him that vacancies were available for posts such as Quality Assurance, Accounts and Medical Coding at the hospital and promised to secure him a government job.
Believing her claims, Saravanan transferred nearly ₹2 lakh through Google Pay in multiple instalments between 2025 and 2026 to the woman and her associate, Gokul alias Gokulakrishnan.
Later, the woman sent him what was purported to be an appointment order for the hospital. However, when Saravanan visited the hospital, he discovered that the appointment order was forged. He also learnt that at least seven other people had allegedly been cheated by the duo in a similar manner.
Based on his complaint, the Job Fraud Investigation Wing of the Central Crime Branch registered a case and launched an investigation. On investigation, the police arrested Gokul alias Gokulakrishnan (36) of St. Thomas Mount. During the arrest, the police seized two mobile phones, forged appointment orders and other incriminating documents.
