Four killed, one injured after car crashes into tree in Kannur

Preliminary findings suggest that speeding may have caused the accident

Four people were killed and one person was injured after a car crashed into a tree at Chalode in Kannur around midnight on Friday (July 10, 2026).

The deceased have been identified as Uttar Pradesh natives, Param Chettri, Harsh, Rizwan and Shan Siraj, a native of Valapattanam in Kannur. The police said that one injured person Aditya Krishnadeep, a native of Thrissur has been admitted to a private hospital in Kannur, where treatment is continuing.

The accident occurred at around 11.20 p.m. while the group was travelling from Bengaluru to Kannur to attend a function. The police said Param Chettri was driving the car. All the car occupants were colleagues working together in Bengaluru

Fire and rescue services personnel along with Mattannur police and local residents cut open the mangled car to retrieve the occupants trapped inside following the impact.

Preliminary findings suggest that speeding may have caused the accident. The police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident
