BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran on Wednesday (July 8, 2026) criticised the Congress, contending that it was against the federal principles while in power, only to now advocate for States’ rights. He was criticising Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president B. Manickam Tagore for his party’s stand on the Mekedatu issue.

Whenever the Congress was in power in Karnataka, the issues of Cauvery and Mekedatu came up, Mr. Nagenthran charged. He urged the Congress to think about the welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu now that the party has become part of the Cabinet in the State.

He further charged that the Congress was not able to directly reply to the BJP’s query on which right of Tamil Nadu the BJP-led Central government had taken away. Pointing out that the Congress’ ally, the TVK government, was implementing the VB-G RAM G programme, he asked whether Mr. Tagore was aware of the ground reality.
