The mother of a three-year-old girl, who died in a vehicle accident in Amboori a day ago, allegedly attempted to end her life on Monday. According to the police, the woman, Nisha, wife of Anu Prasad of Kuttiyanikadu, purportedly took the extreme step distressed over her daughter’s tragic demise. She is being treated at a private hospital in Kattakkada.

Meanwhile, the body of her daughter, Rithuveda, was handed over to the family after the post-mortem examination at the Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital. The accident occurred on Sunday evening on the Kumbichal Kadavu bridge in Amboori, where Rithuveda, the only child of the couple, was run over by a van. They were part of a group that rented the vehicle for a leisure trip.

The mishap unfolded when the driver parked the vehicle on the side of the road to allow the passengers to step out and view a bridge. Preliminary investigations by the Neyyar Dam police indicate that a mechanical failure could have led to the accident. The handbrake cable of the vehicle is suspected to have snapped unexpectedly. With the brake compromised, the vehicle rolled forward on its own, and ran over the toddler before the driver could react, the police said.
