Railway Board Chairman and CEO Satish Kumar inspected key railway infrastructure projects in Telangana, including the Railway Manufacturing Unit (RMU) at Kazipet, Cherlapalli Terminal, Jangaon Amrit Station, and the Indian Railways Institute of Signal Engineering and Telecommunications (IRISET) Centre of Excellence. He later conducted a detailed performance review meeting with South Central Railway (SCR) officials at Rail Nilayam on Sunday.
The inspection began at Kazipet Railway Station, where Mr. Kumar reviewed the progress of ongoing station redevelopment works and assessed passenger amenities. He then visited the ₹597.68-crore Railway Manufacturing Unit, which is being developed for the manufacture and maintenance of modern rolling stock and next-generation railway coaches.
Officials from Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) briefed him on the project through a miniature model displayed at the site office. During the visit, he inspected key facilities under construction, including the main workshop shed, bogie shop, paint shop, wheel shop and testing shop.
Mr. Kumar later undertook a rear-window inspection from Kazipet to Cherlapalli, during which he also reviewed works at Jangaon Railway Station, one of the stations being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. At Cherlapalli Terminal, he inspected tracks, points and crossings, yard facilities and passenger amenities. He also interacted with track maintainers and gangmen to understand their working conditions and responsibilities.
The Railway Board Chairman then visited the IRISET Centre of Excellence, where he interacted with officials involved in the implementation of Kavach, the indigenously developed Automatic Train Protection system aimed at enhancing railway safety.
On Saturday night, Mr. Kumar conducted a detailed inspection of the ongoing redevelopment of Secunderabad Railway Station. Beginning on the south side, he reviewed the redeveloped façade and station entrance before inspecting completed works on the ground, first and second floors. He also examined the newly developed underground parking facility.
Emphasising timely project completion, he directed officials to expedite construction works while strictly adhering to safety norms and minimising inconvenience to passengers. The Chairman also visited Medha Servo Drives Pvt. Ltd., a major manufacturer of Kavach equipment, and reviewed its production and development facilities. SCR General Manager Sanjay Kumar, Hyderabad Divisional Railway Manager R. Gopalakrishnan and other senior officials accompanied him during the visit, according to a press release.
