A Nedumangad Court on Saturday rejected the bail plea of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation councillor and BJP leader R. Sugathan.
The pleas were filed in connection with cases related to an assault on an Aruvippuram native at Vellaikadavu Junction near Vattiyoorkavu and the attack on police officials who had come to arrest him on charges under provisions of the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act (KAAPA).
The Magistrate Court-II, Nedumangad, turned down both pleas on Saturday and Mr. Sugathan will remain in the Central Prison, Viyyur, where he has been held under the KAAPA provisions.
Mr. Sugathan has a total of 12 cases against him including those related to attempted murder, assault on police officials, intimidation, and destruction of property. Mr. Sugathan’s arrest and subsequent developments were at the centre of a major political row in the BJP-ruled Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.
