Actor Shwetha Menon, who stepped down from the post of president of Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) following an internal strife, has alleged that certain vested interests ensured that her committee did not get an opportunity to investigate the wrongdoings of a few members of the previous committee.

“The accounts of the past two terms, including ours, should be thoroughly reviewed. A forensic audit has to be carried out to ensure complete transparency and accountability,” she said in a Facebook post on Wednesday (June 24, 2026).

The 17-member executive committee led by her had resigned ahead of a no-confidence motion at the general body meeting of the actors’ body held in Kochi on June 21. A new ad-hoc committee with actor and Palakkad MLA Ramesh Pisharody was elected at the meeting.

Ms. Menon responded to allegations of her affiliations with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) raised by her detractors at the meeting. “I am neither a Sanghi nor a Commie. I never attended even one function organised by the BJP-led Central government or the previous Left Democratic Front led State government, even though I had all the invitations. I stayed away when everyone else was chasing these invitations,” she said.

She said she decided to resign following the “continuing baseless allegations” against her. “That decision was not out of weakness. It was out of self-respect. The reason why I resigned was because I refused to be a puppet to anyone,” she said. She ended her post by saying that “picture abhi baaki hai” (the main story is yet to unfold).
