Empty cartons and old papers stored in a godown located inside a lube packing facility belonging to Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL) in Tondiarpet caught fire on Monday afternoon. The fire was put out by the Corporation’s own team and four tenders of the Fire Services.

Sources in BPCL said that the fire was not anywhere near the ATF storage or the lube plant, and that there was no loss of property or life. Sources in the Fire and Rescue Services Department said they received the call at 2.41 p.m. and the fire was put out completely by 6 p.m. Vadivelu, a local resident, said that the smoke from the fire rose tall and was visible from adjacent streets.
