Jayashakar Bhupalpally District Transport Officer (DTO) Venkanna was killed after a coal-laden tipper lorry hit him while he, along with his staff, was conducting routine vehicle inspections near the Regional Transport Office (RTO) at Chelpur in Ganapuram mandal on the Parakal-Bhupalpally highway on Monday (June 22, 2026).

According to the police, the tipper lorry rammed into Mr. Venkanna during the inspection, resulting in his death on the spot. The impact was severe, causing fatal injuries to the officer. Mr. Venkanna was transferred to Bhupalpally from Jagtial only about two weeks ago.

The driver of the tipper lorry was reportedly taken into custody and a case has been registered. Further investigation is under way.

Meanwhile, Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar expressed shock over the incident and said an inquiry had been ordered into the accident. In a statement, the Minister said that Mr. Venkanna died while discharging his official duties and conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family. He said the government would stand by the family of the deceased officer.
