In a surprise check, the district police have seized more than 30,000 tablets (Tydol 100 mg) worth around ₹1 crore from five persons at Arakkonam railway station in Ranipet.

Police said the arrested persons, K. Mastan Kurshid Ahmad, 31, A. Abdul Rasheed, 33, S. Murthash, 37, V. Sageeth, 40, and Umaiyar, 22, are residents of Mumbai. Based on a tip-off to Ranipet SP Ayman Jamal, special teams were formed to conduct surprise checks in railway stations in the district. Accordingly, a special police team checked the Mumbai-Chennai superfast express at Arakkonam railway station and seized the tablets from the duo, Mastan Kurshid Ahmad and Abdul Rasheed.

Based on the information from them, the police arrested the remaining members of the gang. Police said the gang brought the banned tablets from pharmacies in Mumbai, where the tablets are not illegal, at a low price and sold them in Tamil Nadu at higher rates. Police have been tracking the mobile phone numbers of suspects involved in the crime before they were nabbed at Arakkonam railway station. Arrested persons were lodged at Central Prison in Vellore. A case was registered and further probe is under way.
