Complaint redressal mechanisms should be made more efficient to prevent atrocities against women in workplaces, Kerala Women’s Commission Chairperson P. Sathidevi has said.

Inaugurating a seminar on POSH (Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace – Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 organised in association with the Kerala Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ) in Kozhikode on Tuesday, she said that the mandatory complaint redressal mechanism had not been set up in most establishments.

“The Department of Women and Child Development has opened a portal based on the report of the Commission to ensure necessary facilities at workplaces as mandated under the POSH Act. However, the response has not been up to the mark. More establishments need to register in the portal. The Commission will make necessary interventions in the matter,” Ms. Sathidevi said.

She added that the attitude towards women in society was slowly turning dangerous, and that the signals had become increasingly visible. Every woman should have a safe working environment, she said.

Calicut Press Club president E.P. Mohammed presided over the event. District Information Officer C.P. Abdul Kareem and State committee members of the KUWJ were present. Legal-cum-probation officer V.L. Anisha explained the POSH Act.
