A bomb threat at the Defence Security Corps (DSC) Records Centre in Kannur, Kerala, on Tuesday triggered a high alert and a joint search operation by the Army, police and bomb squad. The threat was received via e-mail.

Officials said the e-mail written in a mix of English and Tamil warned that RDX had been planted inside the DSC Records section and that an explosion would occur within eight hours. The message was detected by staff in the records section in the morning.

Following the alert, the Army cordoned off the premises and tightened security measures in and around the area. A combined team of the Army, police and bomb squad began an intensive search.

Officials confirmed that precautionary measures had been put in place and the area remained under Army control.

Investigations are on to trace the origin of the e-mail.
