A gang of five allegedly robbed a 28-year-old man of a mobile phone in front of gate no. 4 of the Palace Ground on Ballari Road in the wee hours of Friday.

The victim, Rajesh Kumar Behara, a resident of Kudlu Gate, went to Tumakuru with his friend on a two-wheeler and was returning home late at night.

According to the police, they stopped the vehicle near Palace Ground around 2.30 a.m. becasue of a flat tire. As they were waiting for transport to tow the two-wheeler, the accused approached Behera in an autorikshaw and asked him to help transfer money online and that the amount would be returned in cash.

Behera had agreed to help as the accused cited it was for an emergency. When he was transfering the amount from his mobile phone, one of the accused grabbed the phone worth ₹10,000, pushed him away, and fled the spot in the autorickshaw.
