Hailing the decision taken by the party in its recently held Mahanadu to provide 33% reservations to women in legislatures, the TDP national general secretary and Nandyal MP Byreddy Shabari has said time has come to teach a fitting lesson to the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) that questioned the need for women to be involved in politics.

Ms. Shabari, who spoke to media after inaugurating a free mega eye-care medical camp at the Shivaji Spoorthi Kendra in Srisailam on Saturday, said IT Minister and TDP National General Secretary Nara Lokesh drew inspiration from the party founder late N T Rama Rao and announced the implementation of a 33% reservation for women from the Mahanadu platform.

Ms. Shabari said while previous Mahanadu’s saw the participation of around five lakh cadres, this year’s event organized in a digital-hybrid format across various clusters set a new world record, with participation of 17 lakh TDP cadre.

She reiterated that Mr. Lokesh’s announcement regarding the 33% reservation for women stands as a landmark event that the entire community of women will cherish and remember for generations to come.

She explained that NTR had once declared that he founded the TDP for empowering and development of women and paved the way for women’s higher education by establishing the Padmavathi Women’s University in Tirupati and also granted women property rights.

Following his footsteps, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu initiated the Thrift Movement to foster women’s economic empowerment. She added that Mahanadu has served as a pivotal event in enhancing the dignity and respect accorded to women. “By announcing the 33% reservation for women, Mr Lokesh has firmly established himself as a staunch champion of women’s causes,” she said.
