Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Wednesday (September 10, 2025) participated in the Police Day celebrations in Chennai and administered a pledge to police personnel and officers.

During the demand on discussions on Police department in the 2025-2026 Budget session, he had announced that September 6 would be observed as Police Day every year across the State.

The day marks the enactment of the Madras District Police Act of 1859, which came into force on September 6, 1859, and laid the foundation for the modern system of policing.

Beginning September 6 this year, various programmes were held across the districts and cities of the State, including the administration of a pledge in all police stations, homage to police martyrs, public outreach initiatives, and cultural events involving families of police personnel and the community.

As part of the celebrations, Mr. Stalin administered the Police Day pledge at Rajarathinam Stadium and also distributed prizes to the children of police personnel, who participated in various competitions.

Director-General of Police and Head of Police Force (in-charge) K. Venkataraman and Greater Chennai City Police Commissioner A. Arun were present.
