Three persons, including a travelling ticket examiner (TTE), were injured after a portion of a platform shed collapsed at Lucknow Junction Railway Station on Friday (May 29, 2026), officials said.

The incident occurred around 8:15 a.m. on platform number five.

According to railway officials, passengers were waiting on the platform when a large section of the shed collapsed and partially fell towards the railway track, triggering panic among commuters.

The injured were identified as TTE Amit and passengers Akhilesh and Sahil. Personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP) and railway officials rushed to the spot and rescued the three after removing the collapsed structure.

All three were admitted to a hospital. Officials said the TTE suffered serious injuries to his leg, while one passenger sustained injuries to the shoulder and another suffered injuries to the hand.

Railway authorities said an approaching train was halted at the outer signal following the incident and was allowed to enter the platform only after the situation was brought under control.

Sources said renovation and concourse construction work was underway at the station and portions of the platform number five shed had already been dismantled. The collapsed section was also slated for removal.

Preliminary findings suggested that rusting in the iron structures along the edges of the shed and lack of maintenance may have contributed to the collapse.

Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Northern Railway Sunil Kumar Verma visited the hospital along with senior railway officials and enquired about the condition of the injured.

The DRM told reporters that an inquiry had been ordered into the incident and strict action would be taken against the agency and railway staff found responsible.

A three-member committee headed by the chief engineer has been constituted to investigate the incident. Preliminary inquiry has indicated possible negligence on the part of the contractor, officials said.
