In the aftermath of the hailstorm that lashed the Rayalaseema region, engineers and field staff of the Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (APSPDCL) launched an intensive restoration drive, repairing damaged infrastructure and restoring power supply within a short span.

Kadapa and Nellore districts bore the brunt of the hailstorm on Thursday night. Apart from disrupting electricity supply, the storm uprooted several trees, bringing down power lines and causing extensive damage to the distribution network.

In Kadapa district, electric poles, transformers and feeder lines were damaged in 28 villages spread across Kondapuram, Mydukur, Proddatur, Mylavaram, Jammalamadugu, Duvvur, Rajupalem and Chapadu mandals.

Similar damage was reported in 15 villages under Kavali Rural, Kovur, Muthukur, Jaladanki, Dagadarthi and Allur mandals in Nellore district.

“Overall, 26 feeders, 114 km of power lines, 213 electric poles and 131 transformers were damaged across the two districts. However, teams led by the Superintending Engineers of the respective circles worked round the clock and restored power supply in most affected areas by Friday afternoon,” APSPDCL Chairman and Managing Director Siva Sankar Lotheti said.
