International Customs Day celebrated – The Hindu

The Commissionerate of Customs (Preventive) Kochi and Custom House, Kochi, celebrated International Customs Day on Sunday (February 15), with the theme “Customs protecting society through vigilance and commitment.”

S. Easwaran, Judge, High Court of Kerala, was the chief guest, while actor Shwetha Menon, who is also president of AMMA, was the guest of honour. In his address, Mr. Easwaran underlined the essential role of Indian Customs in trade facilitation and enforcement, while ensuring transparent procedures and respect to tax payer rights within the constitutional framework.

Roy Varghese, Deputy Commissioner of Customs, who won the 2026 World Customs Organisation Certificate of Merit Award, was honoured at the event. The others who spoke include Gurkaran Singh Bains, Commissioner, Custom House, Kochi, and T. Tiju, Commissioner, Customs (Preventive) Kochi.
