A day after the brutal murder and robbery of a 48-year-old woman in Chevella, the police have begun background checks on criminals involved in similar offences and are investigating suspects known for similar modus operandi.

The victim, identified as Erukali Maisamma, a resident of Dharamsagar village in Chevella, was found lying in a pool of blood on government land at Erlapally village along the Chevella–Shankarpally road on Wednesday.

According to the police, unidentified assailants killed Maisamma and chopped off her feet to steal the silver anklets she was wearing.

Police officials said this was the first such case reported in the Chevella area. However, investigators have identified several accused persons previously involved in similar robbery cases across different areas. Some of them, the police said, are currently out on bail and have now come under the scanner.

Teams are conducting background verification of these suspects and are also examining the victim’s daily movements and interactions with people known to her.

Further investigation is underway.
