Eight persons, including a drug peddler, were arrested by the Commissioner’s Task Force and Mehdipatnam police in connection with an MDMA drug racket operating in the city. Police seized 137.60 grams of MDMA, a luxury car, packing material and nine mobile phones, collectively valued at ₹26.8 lakh.

The accused were identified as M. Shubham Kumar Mishra, 19, Soham Nayak alias Jittu, 19, Kalangi Rajesh, 28, Munthun Kumar, 22, Mohammed Abrar Alzama, 26, Rashid Bin Hussain, 28, Khaja Zohaibuddin, 27, and Abdul Shaybaz, 24.

Police seized 137.60 grams of MDMA, a white Volvo XC90 bearing registration number TS 07 GP 0135, a weighing machine, hammer, packing covers, rubber bands and nine mobile phones from their possession.

According to investigators, Shubham Kumar Mishra allegedly procured MDMA through his associate Busa Sai Nikhil Yadav alias Sai, who was previously arrested by Chilkalguda police in another drug case. After Sai’s arrest, Shubham allegedly continued the narcotics trade with Soham Nayak and Kalangi Rajesh.

Police said the accused repackaged the MDMA into smaller packets and sold them to customers across the city. Deliveries were allegedly made personally, through Rapido services, or with the assistance of Munthun Kumar.

The consumers allegedly purchased the drug for ₹2,000 to ₹3,000 per gram. Acting on specific information, sleuths of the Golconda Zone Task Force, along with Mehdipatnam police, apprehended the accused within Mehdipatnam police station limits.

A case was registered under Sections 8(c) read with 22(c), 27A, 29 and 27(a) of the NDPS Act at Mehdipatnam police station.
