
Karnataka Planning Minister D. Sudhakar.
Karnataka’s Minister for Planning and Statistics D. Sudhakar died in a private hospital in Bengaluru on Sunday (May 10, 2026). He was 66.
The Minister was on life support system for over two weeks following lung infection.
He was receiving intensive medical care at KIMS Hospitals (Krishna Institute of Medical Science), Electronic City, Bengaluru. A medical bulletin from the hospital said that he was declared dead at 3.15 a.m.
Mr. Sudhakar represented Hiriyur constituency in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly.
Prominent leaders cutting across party affiliations have condoled the death of Mr. Sudhakar. In his condolence message, AICC General Secretary in-charge of Karnataka Randeep Singh Surjewala described Mr. Sudhakar as a “leader who was committed to the Congress ideology, and forever devoted to People of Hiriyur and Chitradurga.”
Mr. Surjewala said Mr Sudhakar stood out for his smiling mannerisms, simplicity and grassroots connect.
Leader of the Opposition R. Ashok and Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar too have condoled the death of Sudhakar.
