In a historic shift, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has won in 108 of Tamil Nadu’s 234 constituencies, pushing the State’s heavyweights, the DMK and AIADMK, to second and third place respectively. While still shy of the majority mark of 118 seats, the TVK has become the largest single party.
In terms of alliance-wise seat shares, the DMK and its allies, including the Congress, Left parties, and others won 73 seats, while the AIADMK and its allies, including the BJP, PMK, AMMK, and other smaller parties, won 53 seats. In terms of vote shares, the TVK got 34.92%, the DMK+ 31.39%, and the AIADMK+ 27.22%.
