On polling day, efforts to make the electoral process more inclusive gained momentum, as institutions and organisations working in the mental health sector facilitated voting for persons with mental illness.

At the Institute of Mental Health (IMH), 53 residents, who had improved with treatment, cast their votes at booth number 251AV set up on the campus in Ayanavaram. Initially, 100 of them were assessed and found eligible to vote. The number was revised to 53 after doctors of some units re-examined the residents and found that they were not capable of voting, while a few residents were discharged from the institute, according to IMH director M. Malaiappan.
