Mahanadi tribunal gives last opportunity to Odisha, Chhattisgarh to settle river water dispute

The Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal (MWDT) may soon deliver its judgement with regards to Mahanadi River water sharing formula between Odisha and Chhattisgarh as both States failed to place concrete proposal for mutual settlement.

The tribunal has given last opportunity to two States come up with settlement formula by May 2, 2026 which the next date of hearing. Failing to do so, the MWDT is likely to go ahead with its own formula.
