The mango economy in Chittoor district, one of the country’s largest pulp manufacturers, is reportedly heading for a major crisis this season, with only a month left for the procurement of stocks from farmers.
The stakeholders maintain that this year, the yields are likely to be around 40% from the acreage of about 1 lakh hectares, coupled with the phenomenon of early flowering and early summer. Above all, the ongoing West Asia crisis has played a detrimental role, as the pulp industry remains tight-lipped about fresh procurement of stocks, claiming that “the fate of the already shipped pulp stocks stranded in the Gulf remains uncertain.”
