After a gap of nearly four decades, a four-year-old female black panther was formally released into its enclosure at the Indira Gandhi Zoological Park (IGZP) in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday (April 21, 2026) by P. V. Chalapathi Rao, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force and Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) and Chief Wildlife Warden (FAC), Andhra Pradesh, marking a significant addition to the zoo’s animal collection and its conservation efforts.

The animal was brought under the Animal Exchange Programme from the Assam State Zoo-cum-Botanical Garden on March 5.
