The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday (April 20, 2026) accused the Congress and its allies of misleading the public on the Women’s Reservation Bill, and said the party would reintroduce the legislation.

Addressing a press conference, BJP Andhra Pradesh general secretary Ramesh Naidu Nagothu said the Congress was “celebrating as if they had achieved something substantial” on women’s reservation, despite having failed to pass the legislation during its time in power. He cited the party’s handling of the Shah Bano case under former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi as evidence of what he called an inconsistent stance on women’s rights.
