Six persons were injured in a clash between workers of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the United Democratic Front (UDF) during the campaign finale (Kottikalasham) in Azhikode constituency in Kannur on Tuesday.

Four LDF workers and two UDF workers sustained injuries in separate incidents reported from different locations in the constituency.

The injured LDF workers – Anugrah, K.V. Abhijith, and K. Rajesh – were admitted to a hospital.

Alleging that UDF workers were behind the attack, CPI(M) Kannur district secretary K.K. Ragesh visited the injured and accused the Opposition of instigating violence.

In a separate incident, two UDF workers were attacked while returning on a motorcycle after the campaign event at Vankulathul Vayal later in the night.

They were admitted to a private hospital in Pappinissery.

The UDF alleged that CPI(M) workers unleashed violence out of “fear of defeat” in the constituency, escalating political tensions on the eve of the polling.
