Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president Manickam Tagore has alleged that injustice has been meted out to students who took the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE).
The FMGE examination is being conducted by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS). Pointing out the drastic drop in the pass percentage in the exam results, Mr. Tagore said the sudden alteration in the exam pattern was the primary reason behind it.
“Without any prior notice, the NBEMS introduced massive changes to the examination pattern — such as lengthy questions, video-based questions, and clinical/practical-oriented questions. Due to this, the pass percentage has shockingly plummeted to 12.78. Out of the 36,280 candidates who appeared for the exam, only 4,635 have passed. Candidates should have been given adequate time to prepare for such major changes,” he said in a statement.
He further added that the Modi government was continuously shattering the medical dreams of middle-class families and demanded that the Union Health Ministry immediately conduct a transparent review and lower the qualifying cut-off marks for this examination.
