HYDERABAD

Deputy Floor Leader of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in the Assembly T. Harish Rao has alleged that the Congress Government in the State has ended the Legislature session in a hurry to suit the party’s election campaign plans in Kerala and asked the government whether the public issues in Telangana are less important to the ruling party.

He stated that the session was wrapped up without any direction, seriousness and accountability to the people and the suspension of BRS legislators was only a political diversion as the party (BRS) had brought to the notice of the House the alleged involvement of Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy’s family in illegal mining and land grabbing.

He alleged that suspension of BRS MLAs for two days was done only to protect the minister and pass important bills without the presence of the principal Opposition.

Addressing a press conference along with party MLAs K.P. Vivekanand, Padi Kaushik Reddy, Dr. K. Sanjay, Vijayudu and B. Lakshma Reddy, Mr. Harish Rao said people were expecting clarity on the six guarantees and meaningful legislative discussion on key public issues. But the government delivered only disappointment, diversion and disorder.

Taking a strong exception to the remarks made by Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil on Kaleshwaram Project, Mr. Harish Rao said the language used by the Union Minister was exactly the same as that of Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and it exposed the “bond” between BJP and Congress when it comes to attacking BRS and the achievements of Telangana during the BRS rule.

He objected to Mr. Patil’s allegation that about ₹1 lakh crore had “washed away” in Kaleshwaram and said such statements were completely disconnected from facts. He noted that official records and facts had proved the success of Kaleshwaram already after it was given all major approvals by the Central Government and several Central agencies had repeatedly praised the project.

Above all, the Economic Survey and State Budget had confirmed the positive impact of the project on the State’s agriculture and agro-economy. Quoting the Economic Survey he said it had recorded that Telangana’s cultivated area had increased from 1.31 crore acres in 2014 tTo 2.2 crore acres by 2023 and it was possible largely due to Kaleshwaram and Mission Kakatiya.
