Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Thrissur on Sunday (March 29) as part of the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) Assembly election campaign, with a 900-m roadshow planned along the Swaraj Round.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive in the city after campaign events in Palakkad. He will land at the helipad of C. Achutha Menon Government College in Kuttanellur around 4 p.m. and will be received by Union Minister Suresh Gopi and other Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders. From there, he will travel by road to the city centre.

The roadshow will begin near the District Hospital on Swaraj Round and proceed up to Bini Heritage Home, covering approximately 900 metres. Party sources said there will be no public meeting in Thrissur, with the focus entirely on the roadshow.

BJP leaders expect a massive turnout, with over 50,000 people likely to participate. Traditional art forms such as Kummatti Kali, Pulikali, Margamkali and Kathakali are being arranged to welcome the Prime Minister.

Meet with candidates

All NDA candidates from the district are also expected to meet Mr. Modi during the visit. The BJP is hoping the high-profile campaign will energise its prospects in Thrissur, one of the constituencies where it is aiming for a breakthrough, building on its Lok Sabha success.

Meanwhile, tight traffic restrictions have been imposed in the city in view of the visit. No parking will be allowed on Swaraj Round and nearby roads from Saturday morning to Sunday evening. Traffic curbs will be in force from 2 pm to 6.30 pm on Sunday.

Authorities have urged the public to avoid non-essential travel to the city and strictly follow police instructions. Multi-axle vehicles, including trailers, will not be allowed to enter city limits an hour before the Prime Minister’s arrival and will be permitted only after his departure, the police said.
